LETTER FROM YSTARK! DIRECTOR, AIMEE
BELDEN

It’s hard to believe that we are winding down another fun and
exciting year already! And as we look to 2010, I expect even
greater things to come for our organization. But, first, let me
quickly reflect on some of the many activities and programs that we
brought to you in 2009…
We held professional development and networking events:
- CEO Meet&Eats at Akron-Canton Airport, Shearer’s Foods,
Kenan Advantage Group and Goodwill Industries
- Networking in the Middle V at the Cultural Center for the
Arts
- Monthly Meet-Up networking sessions
- College Series YP panel at our local colleges/universities
Social outings and the ever-popular recreation leagues:
- PerplexCity! (a conundrum of ystark! proportions)
- Golf Outing at Brookside
- Dodgeball League, Golf League and two teams in the Canton Rec
Softball League
We also launched the
ystark! Fellowship Program, a
career opportunity for recent college graduates. And we hosted the
2nd Annual Twenty under 40! recognition event.
Wow! I know I was busy, but so were our hundred or so committee
volunteers who helped to brainstorm, plan and execute these events.
I am grateful for their dedication, passion and time in ensuring
that we provide excellent opportunities for you to see what a great
place we live. And I’d also like to thank
you for
supporting us, coming to events and telling your friends about what
we do. Have a wonderful, safe and happy holiday season and I’ll see
you in 2010!

Cleveland+ Young Professionals
Summit
Would you have ever thought that we have over 52 Young Professional
organizations in Northeast Ohio? I was surprised to learn that,
among other interesting facts, when I attended the Cleveland+ Young
Professionals Summit in mid-November. It was a fantastic
opportunity to meet leaders of YP groups from all over our area and
realize that we have similar missions.

And if you thought that perhaps this
whole ‘brain gain’ initiative was just a bunch of lip service, I
can assure you that our region is taking this seriously. Local
Chambers of Commerce, YP organizations, the Ohio Department of
Development, community leaders and many, many volunteers are
working hard to come up with creative, unique, impactful and
effective programs to make sure that Northeast Ohio remains
attractive to YPs. I’ll keep you posted on the outcomes of this
Summit, but feel free to let me know if you’d like more information
or want to get involved in these efforts.

ystark! Fellowship Program seeking
Fellows

ystark! is seeking applicants for the
second annual Fellowship Program -
a unique opportunity for
undergraduate students who are searching for their first position
post-graduation.
Each selected ystark! Fellow will be afforded two years with the
host company, receiving meaningful and challenging work assignments
and the opportunity to work on innovative projects. Each Fellow
will also be required to participate in community service projects,
volunteer commitments and ystark! and Canton Regional Chamber of
Commerce events. Senior management at each Fellowship host company
will stay abreast of the Fellow’s progress and provide detailed
Fellow evaluations.
Fellows receive unorthodox job opportunities, and hosts enjoy
direct access to emerging talent, and a way to capture employees
who have the most knowledge and skills of the latest technologies,
practices and processes. The Fellowship will offer a true immersion
experience – a full-time, salaried, high-exposure work opportunity
that offers the benefits of professional development, community
service involvement and networking opportunities.
The Fellows will begin the program in June of 2010, and ystark! is
currently accepting applications from undergraduate students who
will graduate in the Fall 2009 or Spring 2010 academic year.
Applicants must be graduates of Kent State University Stark Campus,
Malone University, Mount Union College, Stark State College or
Walsh University, or they must be a Stark County high school
graduate who will graduate from any college or university
accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central
Association of Colleges and Schools. The program is open to
graduates in ALL undergraduate majors.
All applications must be received by Sunday, Jan. 31. Learn
