He is a passionate person about his faith, his career and his community; his commitment to the community is evident in the eyes of each of his students. Given Joe’s credentials, he could have easily been hired to work in another community, making more money. Instead, he has chosen to work with an at-risk population and one that truly needs a role model like Joe. |

Elizabeth Burton-Jones, 18 CENTRAL CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL She may be the youngest of the class, but she already holds a long list of accomplishments. She has volunteered at countless events and with many organizations. A recent graduate of Central Catholic High School, Elizabeth plans to attend John Carroll in the fall of 2008. |

Terrance Jones, 32 CANTON NEGRO OLD TIMERS ACTIVITY CENTER One colleague had this to say of Terrance, “Over the years, I have been continually impressed by his staunch commitment to the city of Canton and his fierce determination to see the underprivileged youth in our area succeed through the attainment of education.” Ebony Magazine has also named Terrance as one of America’s 30 and Under Future Leaders. |

Susan Koosh, 36 AFFINITY MEDICAL CENTER Her volunteer career has included working with Stark County American Heart Association, Massillon Chamber of Commerce, Habitat for Humanity, Harvest for Hunger, and many others. As her husband and nominator put it, “She is an exceptionally caring, loyal, and energetic person. She rarely takes time fro herself because she is always taking care of others. She is dedicated to her family, her work and her community. |

Mari Moss, 29 PEACE TV As the volunteer producer and director of PEACE TV, her goal is to be an inspiration to young people by encouraging them to make positive changes in their lives. She has won multiple national awards including the Martin Luther King Peace Award, and she was recently featured in the 2007 book of Millennial Leaders. |

Christopher Remark, 38 AULTMAN HEALTH FOUNDATION Christopher’s nominator had this to say about him, “Superman has nothing on Chris. He has a faster pace than a speeding bullet; he is more driven than a locomotive and can even leap tall buildings, especially if it is for the common good of the patients, employees and physicians at Aultman.” |

Julia Sampson, 38 MALONE UNIVERSITY She is very committed to the growth of our region, evidenced in her Sabbatical Project, in which she chose to focus on the city of Canton’s community and economic development. A colleague of Julia stated that, “Not only does she constantly communicate her love for the area, she puts her words in action through the many activities she’s involved in.” |

Christina Shiltz, 27 PLAIN LOCAL SCHOOLS Christina has a sweet, humble nature, a great sense of humor, and an unmatched commitment to her community. She gives endlessly of herself without expecting anything in return. For years she has volunteered her time to better the lives of others. Astoundingly, she never takes credit for the great things she does – she’d rather recognize those around her. |

Christine Shearer, 37 MASSILLON MUSEUM She is a major proponent of collaboration among the region’s arts and businesses organizations and participates with many groups such as the Rotary and the Boy’s and Girl’s Cubs. Her nominator noted that she “has a unique way of inspiring others with her determination, her talents, her creativity and her love for what she does. It is contagious and admirable.” |

Cassandra Thomas, 37 AULTCARE As a board member to a diverse group of Stark County organizations, including Pathway Caring for Children, Domestic Violence and the Canton Ballet, she has given her time and talents to bettering this community. However, unlike many individuals whose volunteerism stops at the edge of the board meeting room, Cassandra can be just as likely found walking along a track supporting Relay for Life, the Heart Walk or Diabetes research, or grabbing a hammer and jumping in on a project for Hammer & Nails or Habitat for Humanity, you may even find her on the road delivering meals to the needy. |

Stephanie Werren, 38 LEADERSHIP STARK COUNTY This Stark native chose to return home to raise her family and give her time and energy to this community. As the development director for Leadership Stark County, she is charged with perhaps one of the most difficult challenges of any organization - “finding the funding” to support your mission. She willingly faces these challenges as a community leader. |

Derrek Wyman, 23 SMOKERISE INTERNATIONAL GROUP As a very young leader, Derrek recently cofounded Smokerise International Group where he presides as vice chairman and chief operating officer. His nominator stated that, “He is a strong role model for other young career professionals in his commitment to our community.” |
